Care Together

Care Together offers therapeutic and psychosocial support to refugees. Our goal is to help reduce gaps in the healthcare system and support individuals who are suffering from psychological distress due to displacement, war, and persecution.

Our offer

We offer psychotherapy for adults, children, and adolescents, psychosocial counseling, as well as resource-oriented group services. If needed, we work together with language mediators. Our work aims to strengthen our clients' resources and support them in developing new perspectives and shaping their lives as self-determinedly as possible.

Our position

We work in a culturally sensitive and discrimination-critical manner. In doing so, we understand culture as diverse, dynamic, and individual. Our services are open to refugees regardless of nationality, sexual identity and orientation, as well as political, religious, or ethnic affiliation. All services are free of charge for our clients.

Our goals

Care Together is committed to better psychosocial care for people with a refugee background in and around Regensburg. This includes:

the expansion and safeguarding of psychosocial support
the removal of barriers to accessing the healthcare system
raising awareness of the care situation of refugees

A special focus is placed on supporting people who are suffering from severe psychological distress caused by torture, violence, persecution, or experiences of war.

Our target audience

Our offer is aimed at people with refugee backgrounds who are suffering from psychological distress, for example:

Sleep disorders or nightmares
Sadness or depressed mood
traumatic memories
Concentration issues
Fears or inner restlessness

Due to our funding, we unfortunately cannot take on individuals with temporary suspension of deportation (Duldung) – however, we are happy to refer you elsewhere and help you find a suitable offer. For this, you are welcome to contact us by email at caretogether@aaa-regensburg.de register.

a.a.a. e.V.

We are a non-profit association. Since 1971, we have been offering initiatives for people with a history of immigration and migration. We advocate for an equal coexistence of people in Regensburg. Advocating for equality means combating all kinds of discrimination, and racism in particular.

Working Group for Foreign Employees

Since 1973, the „Arbeitskreis für ausländische Arbeitnehmer“ has been permitted to call itself a registered association. Since then, the association's work has been characterized by the dedication of numerous volunteers and members. Among the more than 50 members, for example, are dedicated individuals from the early days, young active students, and new members who bring a great deal of life experience with them. Much has happened within the association since its first meeting in 1971. In addition to traditional homework and recreational supervision, the association's services include tutoring and language support programs, as well as psychosocial and therapeutic services. Much has also changed in migration society over the past 50 years, yet it seems that certain political and social artifacts can never be changed; not so in our association: in July 2014, following a one-year intensive discussion process, the general meeting decided to change the name.

Initiatives for people with a migration background

The a.a.a. is getting an additional name so that the historical component is preserved, namely the name invented by the people who volunteered to offer homework help and tutoring for the children of foreign workers. The additional name „Initiatives for People with Immigration and Migration Backgrounds“ reflects the diversity of what the association actually offers today.

SuPortA

In our SuPortA department, a.a.a. e.V. has set up a contact point for refugees who need social and psychological support. The name stands for „Soziale und Psychologische Anlaufstelle“ (Social and Psychological Contact Point) – and at the same time carries multiple meanings:

From our many years of work with refugee families, we know that psychological help is urgently needed, but difficult to access. The language barrier is just one of many hurdles. Other institutions—such as asylum counseling centers and specialized services—also report this need. Based on these experiences, the Psychosocial Working Group (PSAG) has pooled these needs and developed a concept. With seed funding from Soziale Initiativen e.V., we were able to take the first steps in 2021.

Previous projects at Suporta

Language café

As part of establishing our SuPortA department, several trauma-sensitive programs were specifically developed, implemented, and sustainably established at the a.a.a. These include the Language Café at the Weingasse department, which takes place once a week and is complemented by parallel childcare. The Language Café is based on a specially developed trauma-sensitive concept and was designed specifically for people who, for various reasons, cannot participate in traditional language courses. It is aimed at German learners with and without initial language skills and creates a protected, low-threshold environment where learning is possible without pressure. Each session is dedicated to an everyday topic. Creative exercises, a variety of methods, and diverse materials are used to specifically encourage speaking and promote individual means of expression. The offering is complemented by practical activities such as small excursions in Regensburg, shopping together, or planning and implementing small projects. These strengthen not only language proficiency, but also self-efficacy, orientation in daily life, and social participation.

Support!

The SupPort project took place between August and December 2024. It was designed to support children from the anchor centers in Regensburg through trauma-sensitive leisure activities. Various excursions were held, such as to the children's and youth farm, the Natural History Museum, the Donau-Arena, and the Boulderwelt. The program enabled the children to enjoy play and gave them the opportunity to develop their own abilities and skills in the sense of self-efficacy. New interests were awakened and the children's self-confidence was strengthened as they got to know new places and games. The experience of self-efficacy and the promotion of resources were also a primary focus. Across 30 excursions in and around Regensburg, a total of 95 children from Syria, Armenia, Iran, Iraq, Ethiopia, Ukraine, and Tunisia were reached. The project was funded by the District Government of Upper Palatinate.

Project Suport kids! – Trauma-sensitive play and language support program

The project "Suport kids!" was implemented from August 2024 to July 2025 in cooperation with the Pestalozzi Elementary School. Twice a week, various activities were held in the areas of creativity, movement, and music, as well as on various topics such as emotions and boundaries. In addition, the focus was on playful, extracurricular German language learning. With this project, our goal was also to give children the opportunity within a safe, trauma-sensitive, and resource-oriented framework to try things out, experience self-efficacy, strengthen social contacts, and gain self-confidence. In addition to the weekly activities, excursions were organized to the swimming pool, the JUZ Kontrast youth center, ice skating, the city, etc. The project was funded by the German Postcode Lottery and the Antenne Bayern hilft Foundation.
